An emerging flutist, Christian Lampkin has enjoyed a varied career at a young age. He began his formal flute training at the Jennifer Brooks Music Studio in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In 2012 Chris attended the University of Northern Colorado to study with Dr. James W. Hall, where he earned two bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Flute Performance. Following his undergraduate studies, Chris was admitted into the Bel Canto Flute Academy in Denver, Colorado where he studied with Ms. Brook Ferguson, Principal Flutist of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. He has been a prize winner in competitions hosted by the Upper Midwest Flute Association, Colorado Flute Association, and the Colorado Flute Artists Competition. He has also attended the Maine Chamber Music Seminar at the Snow Pond Center of the Arts in Sidney, Maine and the New Millennium International Chamber Music Festival in Budapest, Hungary on full scholarship as a performance fellow. In the summer, Chris serves as 3rd Flute/Piccolo in Snow Pond Symphony Orchestra, which is in residence with the New England Music Camp. Chris is currently pursuing his master’s degrees in Flute Performance and Music Education at the University of Iowa under the tutelage of renowned artist Nicole Esposito. In Spring of 2021, he will be the first student in the School of Music’s history to earn two graduate degrees. Chris is honored to be a part of the innovational Umoja family, and hopes to continue cultivating musical opportunities for flutists of African descent.
